Paignton’s DP Cars has been approved by Devon and Somerset trading standards under its Buy With Confidence Scheme (BWC) – one of just two used car dealerships in Torbay to meet the tough requirements.
The dealership, which is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, (2014) had to undergo a detailed assessment to be verified under the scheme, including several visits to the showrooms by trading standards assessors.
“It’s a very strict process whereby assessors visit, check the cars and how they are prepared, check the paperwork, check our internal systems, check our MOTs and servicing,” explained joint DP Cars director Daryl Porter who bought the business in 1994. BWC is a signal to our customers that as a company we are open, honest and operate within trading law as well as offering excellent customer service, . “As trading standards say themselves, membership of the scheme is not given lightly.”
“We’re really pleased to have been recognised under the BWC scheme,” added director Daniel Salisbury. “It gives customers additional confidence knowing we have been vetted by trading standards and that customers will be treated fairly and legally.”
And Daryl explained how much the motor trade industry has changed over the 20 years the business has been running for.
“The biggest change is the internet,” he said. “Whereas previously customers used to drive around several car showrooms looking for cars, now they look up to see if the make and model they want is available.
“We have to make sure out website is always up to date with our cars and make sure we have multiple photos and accurate full descriptions.
Another major change is the fact that customers want to be able to drive away their new vehicle the same day, a service DP Cars offers.
“Many of our customers are from outside the region, some recent customers from as far away as Scotland and Kent” explained Daryl. “We source our cars directly from main dealers and ensure that they have excellent service history so customers know they are getting a good quality car.”
